The next generation of data ethics tools
In early 2021, alongside the Open Data Institute (ODI), we at Consequential – a responsible strategy and innovation agency – researched fundamental questions about the second generation of tech and data ethics tools. This involved exploring the current challenges and opportunities in this area to support the vision of a world where data works for everyone.
To capture our findings, we developed a presentation with three key sections: early tech and data ethics tools and their users; the evolving tech and data ethics landscape; and lessons for the next generation of tech and data ethics tools.

Google Cloud unveils Vertex AI, one platform, every ML tool you need
Today at Google I/O, we announced the general availability of Vertex AI, a managed machine learning (ML) platform that allows companies to accelerate the deployment and maintenance of artificial intelligence (AI) models. Vertex AI requires nearly 80% fewer lines of code to train a model versus competitive platforms1, enabling data scientists and ML engineers across all levels of expertise the ability to implement Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) to efficiently build and manage ML projects throughout the entire development lifecycle.

Plotly.py 5.0 is coming soon; Try the release candidate today!
It’s been six months since our last Plotly.py release announcement (4.14, back in December), but our team has been hard at work and we’re finally ready to share the fruits of our labour! The next release of Plotly.py will be 5.0 (a major-version release with some backwards-incompatible changes) because it will be based on Plotly.js 2.0 (itself a major release with some backwards-incompatible changes).

IEC and ISO artificial intelligence committee broadens standards work programme
The IEC and ISO joint committee, SC 42, which develops international standards for artificial intelligence (AI) closed its plenary on the 7th of May with over 250 delegates worldwide in attendance. In response to strong and broad interest in AI standardization, SC 42’s programme of work continues to grow having doubled its number of projects year-over-year to meet this need.
