Understanding Climate Change Using High Performance Computing and Machine Learning
Historically, the classical approaches to studying climate change required a lot of tedious manual labor. These methods typically involved differential equations, calculus, chaos theory, and butterfly effect, all of which have been used to try and understand the changes in our environment and possible causes or contributing factors to those effects. Cellular automata methods have also been helpful in modeling complex systems like fluid dynamics. With all these methods, and especially when used within the context of climate science, they require a massive amount of data.
